HOCTX is using our civic power during the TX Lege Special Session

Spark notes: The Executive Branch has instructed the TX state-level GOP party to use their elected representatives currently in the TX LEGE special session to re-draw the maps that determine how many party-affiliated representatives are in federal congressā€¦ so that Democrats have less power to block the white houseā€™s agenda for the whole country. This is a make or break moment for representative government.

As of 8/3, 51 Texas House Democrats have left the state to ā€œbreak quorumā€ AKA take away enough elected officials so that redistricting is unable to legally pass the TX House. Support their effort by contacting them and telling them to ā€œstay gone to save democracyā€ and with financial support to pay for their hotel costs, etc.

What can we do about it?

We can use our civic power to stop redistricting!

July flood mutual aid

Hands Off Central TX is continuing to raise funds and resources for mutual aid including housing, food, transportation (gas) and medical needs for Central Texans affected by the July 4 flood.

Supplies are being distributed based on asks from the Texans affected by the floods with an emphasis on needs not being filled by other organizations and local government.

Our mission is to DEFEND DEMOCRACY.

We are a coalition of individuals and grassroots organizations who work together to host events and harness the power of Central Texans to defend democracy. We are a big tent of patriotic Americans, welcoming all who want to work on civic engagement and self-governance.

We will overcome. With 3.5% of the country mobilized for sustained nonviolent resistance, we are guaranteed to take back our country and rebuild a beautiful democracy reflective of labor, diversity, and community care.

Our resistance is sustainable through community and collaboration.
